Mardi Gras 2020

We had a good time last Sunday celebrating Mardi Gras at CCC after worship! Thanks so much to everyone who contributed to the delicious lunch and took part in the meaningful sung ritual of putting away the Alleluia until Easter! Led from the Sanctuary after worship by Graham Bryan playing “When the Saints Come Marching In” on his horn, we entered a beautifully decorated Kelsey Hall. Thanks so much to Karen Kett for her Saturday decorating! There were purple, gold and green beads, masks, balloons, coins, and banners galore. For lunch we feasted on jambalaya, gumbo, potato salad, corn muffins, and King Cake. Thanks to Cindy Ketzle and Yvette LaGrand for their organizing and cooking, to Lorrie LeGrand for the colorful King Cake, and to everyone who prepared and brought food. Everything was delicious!  After lunch our youth enjoyed scooping up the candy from the Mexican burro piñata out in the Garden Chapel!

I’m happy to announce that we have five Keepers of the Alleluia this year: Kaia and Siena Canali, Isabella LeGrand, and Zoe and Lia Smith.  They will lead the procession into the Sanctuary on Easter morning and joyously place the Alleluia banner across the communion table. (See pictures.)

On Ash Wednesday in a more contemplative spirit, we began the season of Lent with the Imposition of Ashes during our 7 p.m. worship service. Those of us present found it meaningful as to reflect on what it means to have a heart broken open for God.

We are now on our Lenten journey, forty days (not counting Sundays) during which we try to do better at living our lives as Christians,  thoughtfully and intentionally. Plan to be present with your CCC community of faith as we worship God together each Sunday. I hope to see each of you.

Lenten blessings.
