The season of Advent begins this Sunday!
Dear Congregation,
The season of Advent begins this Sunday, December 1st with the lighting of the candle of HOPE on the Advent wreath by Joan Campagna and her granddaughter Xochi. The Hanging of the Greens will take place in worship as we reflect on the meaning of the symbols of the season. You’ll also be privileged to hear Bianca Montenegro’s reflection on her first Christmas in America. In addition, she and Graham Bryan will share a brief skit about the meaning of Advent, continuing their father/daughter car ride to church conversation.
I do HOPE you’ll be intentional about being present in worship, not only this Sunday, but on all the Sundays in Advent and on Christmas Eve. Give yourself the gift of being in worship as each of the other candles are lit on the Advent Wreath—PEACE, JOY, LOVE, and finally the CHRIST candle. Allow your soul to soak in the beauty of the decorated Sanctuary, the message of scripture, lovely music, and communal prayer as we share each other’s joys and concerns.
I like this quote from Seasons of the Spirit. “People of all ages find their attention being pulled in many different directions, especially as the voice of the marketplace reminds us the ‘the holiday season is upon us’ and counts down the days we have left until Christmas. Observing the Season of Advent with its tones of longing, anticipation and hope has the potential to redirect and ground us in the way of God.”
May Advent 2024 be a blessing to you.
In Christ’s love.
Pastor Candy
