Easter Sunday is coming!

Dear Congregation,

As I write this on Holy Thursday, we are preparing for tonight’s Maundy Thursday Mediterranean potluck which will include the Rite of Footwashing, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion followed by a Tenebrae service outdoors in the Garden Chapel. We’ll remember Jesus’ very important words and actions that he was so intentional about leaving as his commission to his followers then and now. “Do this! Remember this!” “Be this!”

Tomorrow on Good Friday, we will remember how Jesus was crucified and mourn his loss once again. On Good Friday it can feel as if evil has won. I invite you to read the Passion scripture passage John 18:1-19:37.

But… Easter Sunday is coming when we’ll rejoice that death has no lasting power over Jesus! His resurrection is an assurance to us over the ages that death is not the last word for us either, and that good is stronger than evil.

And so, we will rejoice together on Easter Sunday, punctuating our Alleluias with your help as you’re invited to wave the colorful pom- poms you’ll receive each time you hear an Alleluia, which is short for the phrase “Alleluia! He is risen!” Come and be a part of the joy. Your pom-pom is waiting for you!
