World Communion Sunday
Dear Congregation,
This Sunday we’ll celebrate World Communion Sunday together with congregations all over the world. I’ll bring out my world globe once again and place it on the Communion Table as a visual reminder of the day. Many of the countries on it have different names and different boundaries now, because my globe is old and outdated. I believe I picked it up at a yard sale some time ago as a teaching tool for my grandchildren before the time they could find anything on a smartphone.
The old globe is a lesson in itself that borders only exist because humankind has placed them where they are on maps. God didn’t make the world with borders to keep people in or out. While it’s interesting to see how cultures have developed and to value our differences in language, food, religion, and the arts, we humans are much more alike than different.
On World Communion Sunday we Christians celebrate our common sacrament of Holy Communion together remembering Jesus Christ and what he taught and lived.
I invite you to be present in worship, whether in person or on-line, and join together in the sacrament this Sunday. It is important that we remember who we are and whose we are, especially in these challenging times. Your presence matters.
Grace and peace to each of you.
In Christ’s love.
Pastor Candy
