We really treasure this lovely weather.

Dear Congregation,

The weather here in S. Florida has been really nice for a couple of weeks now—70’s or low 80’s and clear with little humidity. Because we know that summer with its 90’s and 100+ degree days are on the way, we really treasure this lovely weather. It’s true that, even though we are spared winter ice, snow, and freezing temperatures here, our summer weather is not pleasant.

And so, perhaps many of you who are able are going for walks. Some of you may do so just for pleasure, while others of you may be trying to get in the 10,000 daily steps recommended for physical fitness!

What I have found to be true about walking, is that when you walk with someone it’s a good time to talk. I’ve done a fair amount of pastoral counseling while walking with another person. Walking and talking seem to go together. There’s a feeling of companionship present when you are walking side by side, moving in the same direction, and are outdoors in nature. Words seem to flow more easily than in a structured “counseling” session.

This Sunday we’ll focus on the story of the encounter on the Emmaus Road between two followers of Jesus and the stranger who joins them on their walk, and afterward for dinner. In the words of the verse 2 of the hymn “Won’t You Let Me Be Your Servant”, “We are pilgrims on a journey, we are travelers on the road; We are here to help each other go the mile and bear the load.”

I hope you’ll be present in worship with your fellow travelers on the road of life.

In Christ’s love.

Pastor Candy
