This Sunday is Pentecost

Dear Congregation,

This Sunday is Pentecost when we’ll celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised to his followers. When the Spirit came with its power it enabled the disciples to share the news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection far and wide. That sharing brought about the birth of the Christian church and so we celebrate the birthday of the church on Pentecost. Happy Birthday, Church!

The Christian Church has gone through many changes over its almost 2000 year history. There are many different types of churches that call themselves Christian today, not all of which are faithful to the teachings of Jesus—think Christian Nationalism! What hasn’t changed is the power of the Holy Spirit to help those doing their best to live out Christ’s mandate to love and serve. We do not need to do the work of justice and peace alone.

And so I invite you to be present in worship to recharge your spiritual batteries as we sing, pray, share our joys and concerns, and respond to the Pentecost story.

See you Sunday!

In Christ’s love.

Pastor Candy
