Labor Day

Dear Congregation,

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of August already, and will be celebrating Labor Day on Monday, which traditionally marks the end of summer! Here in South Florida many of us are looking forward to the cooler temperatures of fall after a very hot summer. Now that school has resumed and vacation is over for many, I look forward to seeing you back in worship here at CCC.

You’ll notice when you come that we have a new message on our sign out front extending the invitation, “Bothered by the Bad News? Come Hear the Good News!” I think the words “Bad News” cover a lot of what’s going on in the world. Our reaction to it all—wars, starvation in Gaza, school shootings, arrest, detention, and deportation of immigrants, and more – feels like we’re experiencing spiritual gut punch after gut punch. Surely the gift of faith in Christ we’ve been given and are called to share with others, seems like the only thing that enables us all to deal with it all without losing hope.

And so we are called to remember that Gospel means “Good News, and that news about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection found in scripture is very good. Because of Jesus Christ, evil will not ultimately win. We are called to hold onto hope and to do what we can to share it with others in words and actions.

May God bless you as together we labor on in this work of ultimate importance.

In Christ’s love,

Pastor Candy
