I hope you are all staying cool!
Dear Congregation,
I hope you are all staying cool! My air conditioning went out Wednesday night unexpectedly and, until it was repaired the next morning, I was certainly reminded of how necessary it is here!
As was announced last week, we will be holding a Prayer Vigil for Detained Immigrants in the Garden Chapel on Saturday, August 9th at 6 p.m. I hope you’ll take fliers on Sunday and distribute them, as well as planning to attend. Bianca has posted the information on our Facebook page and on other social media.
She and I have also been working with a group of leaders of faith and conscience from across Florida about taking more action. The decision has been made to hold weekly interfaith vigils each Sunday outside of the Everglades Detention Center that is cruelly known as Alligator Alcatraz, starting August 3, from 5:00pm-6:00pm to pray and witness against the inhumane and unconstitutional treatment of our neighbors. Bianca and I will be going to the first one this Sunday afternoon. If anyone else is interested in attending, we can give you more information and directions.
There is no lack of situations and people to pray for in these times made challenging by government policies on all levels. I encourage to do just that.
See you in church!
In Christ’s love,
Pastor Candy
