I hope all is well with you.
Dear Congregation,
I hope all is well with you. As you know, Bianca, Anita, and have attended prayer vigils at the cruelly names Alligator Alcatraz immigrant detention facility in the Everglades on Sunday afternoons. The purpose of the vigils is to advocate for the facility’s closing because of reported deplorable conditions for detainees, their lack of access to legal counsel, environmental damage, and more. This Sunday will be the fourteenth week for the vigils.
You are invited to attend the vigil planned for December 7th as a group from CCC. Several rabbis from Miami, who Bianca and I know through an interfaith group, will be leading the 4 p.m. prayer vigil that day and have asked for support from Miami area congregations. We have told them “We’re in!”
Our plan is to carpool as a group, meeting at a convenient location which we’ve used previously, and will share with those interested in going. We’ve found these vigils to be very meaningful and believe that by being a part of them we are living out our Christian faith by expressing love of neighbor.
Please let me know if you’re planning on coming and mark the date on your calendar. Also, please read the recent article from The Miami Herald in which I’m quoted, representing the church, in the link below.
Grace and Peace to you.
In Christ’s love.
Pastor Candy
