Happy Fall!

Dear Congregation,

Happy Fall! Although we don’t have trees with colored leaves and temperatures in the 60’s here in S. Florida, we’re reminded of the change as we see pumpkins and cider for sale in our grocery stores. The weather forecast for Sunday’s R.O.A.R walk sponsored by CCC is for a high of 85 degrees, cooler than the 90’s we’ve experienced for weeks. Bianca and I are busy preparing for that by getting plenty of water and Gatorade to hand out, and ironing out the nuts and bolts details. I do hope you’ll be here to participate, to help, and/or to cheer the walkers on.

This 1st National Walk for Long-Term Care Reform is special to me. Having visited parishioners in many different long-term care settings for over thirty years, and having had my mother in three facilities, I have seen many examples of less than adequate care. I know that many of you have also had loved ones in long-term care settings and know first-hand the reality of what such a placement means for them and their families. The prospect that we ourselves might some day have to reside in long-term care is a specter that inspires fear.

As a reminder, R.0.A.R. stands for RESPECT, OVERSIGHT, ADVOCACY and REFORM, things we’re asking 4LTC residents.

Please let Bianca or me know if you’d like to help, invite others, and please plan to be here Sunday (8:30 registration, 9 a.m. walk, and worship afterward. Our Praise Band will begin Gathering Music at 10:30 a.m.
