Dear Congregation,

One of the first things that I noticed, after I began driving to Christ Congregational Church on Sunday mornings, was the presence of lots of folks riding bicycles on S.W. 67 Avenue. Especially in the mile or so as I approached the church, large groups of serious-looking cyclists in their professional gear, as well as single riders, twosomes, and even families with babies in seats behind their parents, were all out riding in the beauty of the early morning. After mentioning my observation to several of the congregation, I was told that ours is a very popular area for cyclists. The wide roads, lovely peaceful countryside with its gorgeous, large trees, and low traffic are very attractive to bicycle riders of every persuasion.

I began thinking that it might be a good thing for the church to have a special “Blessing of the Bicycles” service, reaching out to those who ride by our church and others to whom bike riding has an important place in their life. In that way we could let them know that we see them and wish them well; that we are a church that wants to share God’s blessings with the cycling community.

When I raised the idea for a “Blessings of the Bicycles” service with several of you, it was enthusiastically received. It was felt that our Outreach Committee could best spearhead promoting such a service, and that committee has taken on the responsibility. And so, on Sunday, October 7, when we resume the two- service fall and winter schedule, the early 9 a.m. service will be a “Blessing of the Bicycles”. You’re invited to bring your bikes and invite your friends to the Outdoor Chapel, where we’ll gather and bless bikes and their riders.

Eye-catching, colored, informational fliers have been prepared thanks to Antonia Godley-Juarez. You are encouraged to take some and distribute them around our area. Let’s get the word out, so that the cyclists ride in, not past,CCC on October 7!

God Bless You!
